Mustang Medicine
Rider & Horse Safety Agreement
A shared understanding for care, safety, and respect between humans and horses.
1. Why This Agreement Exists
This agreement exists to help keep everyone safe — you, the horses, and our facilitators. By participating in horseback riding or horse-related activities with Mustang Medicine LLC, you understand that these experiences carry both beauty and real physical risk, and you are choosing to take part willingly.
2. Understanding the Risks
Horses are powerful, sensitive animals. They may move suddenly or react to sound, touch, environment, or energy. Even with trained horses and experienced guides, incidents can occur. Possible risks include, but are not limited to:
• Falling or being thrown
• Being stepped on, bitten, or kicked
• Colliding with another horse, rider, or object
• Equipment or saddle issues
• Uneven or slippery ground, rocks, or changing weather conditions
• Dust, insects, or allergic reactions
• A horse becoming startled or not following direction
By participating, you understand and accept these risks and choose to engage with awareness and responsibility.
3. What Mustang Medicine Provides
Mustang Medicine provides:
• A well-cared-for horse and appropriate tack (saddle, halter, reins, etc.)
• Guidance from a skilled horse trainer or horseman
Important note: Mustang Medicine does not provide helmets. You are encouraged to bring and wear your own certified riding helmet. Choosing not to wear a helmet increases your personal risk of injury.
4. Clothing & Personal Responsibility
For safety and comfort, participants agree to:
• Wear closed-toe shoes or boots with a small heel
• Wear long pants and weather-appropriate clothing
• Avoid loose scarves or jewelry
• Follow all instructions given by the guide or horse trainer
Participants agree to arrive sober, alert, and not under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medications that could impair balance, judgment, or awareness.
5. Taking Responsibility & Release
You understand that horse-related activities involve inherent risk and accept full responsibility for your participation. You agree that Mustang Medicine LLC, its owners, facilitators, trainers, and property owners are not responsible for injuries, accidents, losses, or damages that may occur during these activities, including those resulting from negligence or unforeseen circumstances. This includes personal injury, death, or property damage, whether known or unknown.
6. If Something Happens
If injury or emergency occurs, you authorize Mustang Medicine to seek medical or emergency care on your behalf. You understand that you are responsible for any related costs.
7. Respecting the Space
Participants agree to treat horses, equipment, and land with care. Any damage caused through carelessness may be the participant’s responsibility to repair or replace.
8. Weather & Safety Changes
Mustang Medicine reserves the right to modify or cancel activities if weather, footing, or environmental conditions are unsafe. Communication, refunds, or rescheduling will be handled with care and fairness.
9. Photos, Media & Personal Devices
Photos and short videos may be taken during Mustang Medicine sessions for education, storytelling, and community sharing. Participants may appear in group or background images, even if they are not the primary focus. By participating, you understand and agree that Mustang Medicine LLC may use these images for its website, social media, educational materials, or marketing content.
Participants are welcome to take photos or videos of themselves, provided it does not interfere with safety, the horses, or the flow of the session. Out of respect for privacy, participants agree not to photograph or record other riders, guests, or facilitators without their clear permission.
Mustang Medicine LLC is not responsible for photos or recordings taken by other participants, nor for how such materials are used or shared outside of official Mustang Medicine channels. Mustang Medicine LLC is also not responsible for the loss, damage, or breakage of personal devices, including phones, cameras, or recording equipment, during any horse-related activity.
10. Health & Environment Awareness
Participants acknowledge potential exposure to dust, insects, or communicable illnesses and accept responsibility for personal health and boundaries.
11. Legal Notice (Utah & Other States)
This agreement is governed by Utah law and follows the Utah Equine Activity Liability Act, which states that horse activity sponsors are not liable for injuries or death resulting from inherent risks of equine activities, unless caused by reckless conduct or faulty equipment. This agreement applies in other U.S. states to the fullest extent permitted by law.
12. Severability
If any portion of this agreement is found unenforceable, the remaining sections shall remain in full effect.
13. Understanding & Consent
You confirm that you have read and understood this agreement, had the opportunity to ask questions, and are participating voluntarily, responsibly, and with respect for yourself, the horses, and the Mustang Medicine team.
14. Minors
For participants under 18, a parent or legal guardian must acknowledge and accept responsibility on the minor’s behalf, including waiver of claims related to participation.
